So I inadvertently signed myself up to write this weeks’ blog post when I said, “ Two weeks in and I already feel like I can take over the world” within earshot of Abby, our Program Director this past weekend at the Geek Girl Conference here in Charlotte. 

I quit my job as an IT Recruiter to come to TTS full-time. I would rank this as the second craziest thing I’ve done in life, but I figure if you are going to do something that can change your life, go all in and don’t look back. It’s the first time since I was 17 that I’ve been unemployed. But I decided to go for it because when I look around at the most influential people in Tech, a common thread in their stories is a leap of faith. 

Now back to my previous statement of “feeling like I can take on the world”. Ruby on Rails is a never ending journey because it is always evolving. But after the first two weeks, I know that I am capable of learning and building awesome apps. 

We took an assessment at the end of week 2 to see where we stood with remembering some of the main Ruby methods and concepts we covered the first two weeks, and I surprised myself by being able to pull from memory 10/13 concepts. That encouragement made me feel like I am on track and I can do this.

After TTS is finished, I am looking forward to continuing my RoR education and joining a firm that will allow me to challenge myself and be creative. I also look forward to paying it forward to others that wants to get into Tech. So far, this is the best impulsive decision I’ve ever made.
